Entertainment Review: Ted Lasso – Apple TV+
Hello friends. I know that Ted Lasso is one of the most awarded shows released in recent years, and after a lot of my friends bullied us into give it a chance, although neither Alina nor I like football in special, or comedy in particular, I bring you today a short review for the first two seasons of this fantastic Apple Original.
Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England. The kicker? He will do that despite having no experience coaching soccer or knowing anything about the beautiful game. He doesn’t know the rules, he can’t understand what offside means, and he can’t make out why teams need to be relegated. If this wasn’t enough, he walks into traffic, he acts like a child, most of the time, but he always makes a difference, he will most assuredly make you laugh out loud with his disarming charm and his humor.
Ted Lasso is definitely one of the best-written shows in recent memory and will make everyone watch it with a big smile on their faces. To be honest, I can’t recall when we last laughed so much watching a TV show, probably never. The characters are real and as human as possible, complete with interesting personal stories, dangerous, dark secrets, and of course, unique faults.
We have 10 episodes in the first season, and 12 in the second, each of them exploring aspects surrounding the club, its players, the owners, and the team of coaches who are trying to save the club from an impending disaster.
The first season is a little more lighthearted than the next one, but each episode, delivers a treasure trove of good feelings, emotional moments, and superb acting from the cast.
Season two gets a little more serious, focusing on some emotional aspects that our beloved characters have to deal with, but the above-mentioned brilliant writing still manages to offer the much-needed, comedic relief that we are all here for. We watched these two seasons in just four days, always cheering on the team and talking about the characters like they were our friends and enemies.
Aside from the comedic aspects of the show, the writers have touched on some really uncomfortable subjects, and every single time managed to say something remarkable about a lot of things.
We are now eagerly awaiting the third season which hopefully will be available soon. Alina and I highly recommend this show, even if you are not interested in soccer. You will love these people, you will laugh and cry with them, you will root for their success and suffer at each defeat.
I will also add some accolades in this review so that you know that everyone else and their mother also recommends this show:
After breaking records to become the most Emmy-nominated freshman comedy series in history and landing top honors — including the award for Best Comedy Series — at last year’s Emmy Awards, the second season of “Ted Lasso” was recognized with 20 nominations for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.
The cast of the second season earned repeat nominations for last year’s Best Actor in a Comedy Sudeikis, Best Supporting Actor winner in a Comedy Goldstein and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Waddingham. The series also scored first-time acting nominations for Niles, Richardson and Jimoh, as well as nominations for stars Temple, Nick Mohammed, Harriet Walter and James Lance.
Please check out the trailer above and at least watch the first episode, after that, I’m sure that you won’t be able to stop.
