Apple unveils groundbreaking MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch for the first time on Mac

Two MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display devices are shown from the front with the screen open.  side-by-side against a solid black background, with the smaller, darker gray laptop positioned slightly in front of the larger, lighter silver one. Both screens display an identical abstract graphic composed of vertical, glowing blue and white lines that form the letters "PRO" across the dark display. A small, black camera notch is visible at the top center of each screen, interrupting the vertical line pattern. Time 19:06

Hello, dear readers!

Apple has announced a new MacBook Pro featuring its PROLED XDR display, tandem OLED technology, and Touch capabilities for the first time on a Mac. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, the new laptop combines a thinner, lighter design with the performance of Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, advanced AI capabilities, and up to 24 hours of battery life.

A New Display and Touch Experience

The new PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology and features peak HDR and SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits, a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1, and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. It supports both P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, making it suitable for professional photography, video editing, and design work.

For the first time, Mac users can interact directly with the display using Touch. Supported gestures include swiping to scroll through webpages, pinching to zoom in on photos, and dragging and dropping content. Touch also opens up new possibilities for drawing, working with 3D models, and playing software instruments.

The butterfly features iridescent green wings with hints of pink, purple, and blue, and rests on a curved, textured green stem. The background on the screen consists of flowing, abstract green lines that complement the colors of the butterfly.

Apple says many existing apps will work with Touch because macOS automatically translates touches into clicks. Developers can also use updated system gesture APIs to create experiences designed specifically for touch interaction. Touch works alongside the keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures Mac users already know.

M5 Pro, M5 Max, and More

The new MacBook Pro features Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, designed for demanding professional workloads, including software development, scientific research, video production, and 3D rendering. The laptops support up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage.

Other highlights include the Dynamic Island, which comes to Mac for the first time, a six-speaker sound system with 50 percent deeper bass, a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones, Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.

The new models run macOS 27 and include Apple Intelligence features and Siri AI. Apple also says the laptops contain 55 percent recycled material overall.

Pricing and Availability

Pre-orders begin on October 28, 2026, with availability starting November 6. In the United States, prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and $3,399 for the 16-inch M5 Pro model. M5 Max configurations start at $4,499 and $4,799, respectively.

As a totally blind Mac user, I’m curious to check out the new MacBook Pro and find out how VoiceOver will work with its touchscreen. Apple has introduced a new way to interact with the Mac, and I want to explore what this means for accessibility in practice.
