How NordVPN helps me access a more inclusive Internet

Every single day as someone who’s totally blind, my connection to the world is built on technology. From the screen reader that lets me navigate websites, to the services that bring me entertainment, learning, and social connection, everything hinges on accessibility and reliability.

But sometimes, even when you’re paying for the best services – whether it’s Netflix, Max, Disney+, or Peacock – you can still find yourself locked out of content because of where you live.

That’s where NordVPN stepped in and completely changed the game for me. Although I have been using a DNS server for many years, a dedicated app like this was something I was waiting for.

I’ve been using NordVPN every day for over a year now, and it’s become one of the most important services in my digital life. More than just a security layer, it’s a way to unlock the world, and most importantly for me, access content with audio descriptions, something that’s not consistently available here in Norway.

It’s incredibly frustrating to subscribe to multiple streaming platforms and still miss out on full accessibility simply because of region-based restrictions. Thanks to NordVPN, I can connect to U.S. servers and immediately enjoy the very best audio-described content those platforms have to offer. Accessibility shouldn’t be restricted behind paywalls or geo-restrictions.

This kind of freeing access goes far beyond entertainment. For example, I recently activated Meta AI on my Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, something I couldn’t do without using a VPN, since the feature is only available in specific countries. With NordVPN, I switched my location, completed the setup, and unlocked a powerful accessibility feature that’s now part of my everyday. These little success stories add up and have a big impact on how much independence I have online.

What’s really impressive is how well NordVPN works across all my devices. I use it on my iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC, and Apple TV, and yes, the Apple TV app is fully accessible with VoiceOver. That means I can connect to the server I need without asking anyone for help. Accessibility like that isn’t just appreciated, it’s welcomed.

The iPhone app does have some accessibility issues when it comes to VoiceOver. Some buttons aren’t clearly labeled, which can make navigation confusing if you’re new to it. However, after familiarizing myself with the interface, I can connect without problems. It’s very usable once you know where everything is. That said, a few simple label fixes would go a long way toward making the app truly seamless for blind users.

Under the hood, NordVPN offers over 7,400 servers in 118 countries, which means I’ve never had trouble finding a fast, reliable connection. Whether I’m accessing a service in the U.S., the U.K., or beyond, I get excellent speeds with no slowdown. I also appreciate that NordVPN has a strong no-logs policy, verified by independent audits. Privacy matters, not just in theory, but in practice, and this service gives me confidence that my data stays mine.

One more thing: the pricing is surprisingly affordable. With long-term plans offering up to 74% off, NordVPN gives you a whole lot of value for just a few euros per month. For accessible streaming, security, privacy, or bypassing geo-restrictions, it’s worth every cent.

In a world that still creates digital barriers for people like me, NordVPN helps break those walls down. It’s reliable, fast, secure, and above all, accessible. After more than a year of daily use, I can honestly say that NordVPN doesn’t just help me protect my connection – it helps me experience the internet the way it should be: open, inclusive, and unrestricted.
