Gives you an Edge in Pro Gaming

Hello, dear readers. As you may remember, if you follow me on social media or on Patreon, last week we received from Sony, through our friends at PlayStation Romania, the PlayStation VR2 next-generation virtual reality headset and a DualSense Edge controller. Today, I will tell you a few things about the DS Edge and about the PSVR2 we will talk about in a future article.

I’ll start this review by saying right from the beginning that the DualSense Edge has instantly become my favorite controller, or my daily driver, as some people like to say. The problem is that I need to share it with Alina, as we only have just one for now. The good news though is that it was a nice surprise to discover that the Edge can be easily charged with the regular charging station for the original PS5 DualSense and thanks to on-the-fly profile switching, we can easily pick it up and play our favorite games without the need for two separate controllers. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start with what actually is the DualSense Edge.

The DualSense Edge is PlayStation’s first-ever high-performance ultra-customizable controller targeting pro gamers everywhere. A lot of thought and work went into the creation of this impressive device and I can confirm that it deserves your complete attention, especially if you are a hardcore gamer or prefer a more premium controller for your PS5.

Let’s get this first out of the way, the original DualSense is a great piece of technology on its own. I love it and I think it brings to the table really revolutionary features that are to be found nowhere else. If you don’t need extra customization added to your gaming sessions, you will be more than fine with that one. But, if you feel the need for a completely customizable gamepad, you should consider the Edge. Here is what it offers over the regular PS5 controller: multiple profiles, remappable buttons, changeable stick caps, adjustable trigger lengths, mappable back buttons, replaceable stick modules, and a locable braided, super long, USB cable for a wired connection when you can’t afford to miss even a millisecond in an online confrontation.

On top of this, the Edge is built upon the already amazing PS5 basic gamepad, so it allows us to experience all the immersive features of the DualSense wireless controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, some motion controls, and even more functionalities offered separately in a title by title situation.

Another thing that I love about the PS5, in general, is that thanks to all those features mentioned above, it feels like a true generational leap compared to other platforms. That’s why I prefer to play multiplatform games on PS5, it’s fast, it’s quiet and the DualSense together with 3D audio really opens an entirely new universe of experiences for a blind gamer like me.

Back to the DualSense Edge now, I can confirm for my blind readers that the entire process of connecting and setting up the controller is fully accessible thanks to Screen Reader technology on PS5. As soon as the console detects the DS Edge it will start a very nice, easy-to-follow and comprehensible onboarding tutorial that will guide you through everything that you need to know about your fancy new controller. From button placing to keys customization and all the way to profile assignments, everything will be presented in an accessible way. You can easily customize the Edge in any way you want, without needing sighted assistance. Another thing that I think everyone will appreciate is the premium build of the DS Edge and the attention to detail shown for this product.

The DualSense Edge is a super premium controller that fully embraces PlayStation 5’s gorgeous design, arrives in a beautiful caring case, and comes with a lot of accessories.

I am an extremely well-organized individual, some even go as far as to say that I’m a little OCD, and I do nothing to contradict them on this notion, so I love how easy it is to keep the DualSense Edge wireless controller and its components together and organized in one spot with this included carrying case. I can even charge the controller via a USB connection while it’s stored in the case, thanks to a nice removable flap that allows a cable to be easily attached.

This case can also be a perfect place to store the multiple accessories that come in the box. So you ask, what is in the box?

We have of course, the DualSense Edge wireless controller, a USB braided cable, 2 Standard Caps, 2 High Dome Caps, 2 Low Dome Caps, 2 Half Dome Back Buttons, 2 Lever Back Buttons, and a connector housing that will secure the USB cable to the controller when needed and, last but not least, the very useful Carrying Case.

The DualSense Edge feels great in the hand. It has just the right balance so it will be both comfortable and ergonomic. Both Alina and I love it. Neither of us has touched any of the DualSense controllers after this one arrived, aside from picking one up to compare it to the Edge. The fact that the DualSense Edge allows us to customize key layouts and assign for example L3 to the left back button and other such useful tweaks has improved our gaming experience so we won’t go back to the way before :).

If you are perfectly contented with the regular DualSense, you don’t care about being the first in a multiplayer game, and don’t feel the need to change anything about your gaming experience, then you don’t need the DualSense Edge.

Of course, for everyone else, I won’t assume to tell you what to do with your hard-earned money, so I can just recommend that you check out the DualSense Edge at a friend’s or somewhere else, if you have the chance, it is something that we didn’t knew we needed until we tried it. If you are a Pro gamer, a streamer who makes a living from gaming, or you spend a lot of hours every day with a gamepad in hand, you would do yourself a world of good to pick this up, because it will definitely make your life easier and more comfortable while playing.

The DualSense Edge is available now for PS5 from retailers all over the world and we recommend it heartily to those who want to always have the best gaming experience possible.
