Chocobo GP is a blast on Nintendo Switch

Chocobo GP is a new kart racing game from Square Enix that is more fun than it has a right to be.
There are a lot of games that try and fail to take on Mario Kart, especially on the Nintendo Switch, but it seems that the recently released Chocobo GP manages to stay comfortably in Mario’s rear mirror.
Chocobo GP does not reinvent the genre and it doesn’t even try to. It’s a fast, colorful, fun, and extremely addictive karting experience that will appeal to Mario Kart fans and to newcomers alike. With a suitable selection of characters, karts, game modes, and tracks to satisfy the need for speed, destruction and fun for anyone who picks it up, Chocobo GP is a blast on the Switch.

The gameplay is as addictive and rewarding as that of Mario Kart, but it also has its own originality. There are a few game modes, from a truly great, amusing, and at the same time creepy story mode, to the arcade-style cups and all the way to the competitive online multiplayer where tournaments await those gamers looking for a challenge, Chocobo GP has everything for everyone.
There is a Lite version that you can try if you want to see how the mechanics hold up, but this is a very stripped-down version of the full game.

The graphics are lively and colorful, the framerate is stable at 60 FPS and the gameplay is as smooth as butter thanks to that. The game looks great on the Switch OLED and it’s fun regardless if the console is docked or in handheld mode.
Being a Switch game, we weren’t expecting any accessibility features and so we were not disappointed when none were available. I keep telling people that the Switch can be a wonderful platform for blind gamers, only if Nintendo would make a priority of implementing accessibility options in the OS and if developers would create accessible experiences. But, if you are not disabled, Chocobo GP won’t give you any headaches.

We are curious to see what the plans are for the feature because Square Enix is preparing a lot of content for Chocobo GP, with a season pass approach that can be a hit or miss with today’s audiences, but what we’ve experienced so far impressed us in a good way and we will return to the game in order to unlock Cloud from Final Fantasy and other iconic characters from the Square Enix franchises.
