Entertainment review: CODA – an Apple Original Movie

This article has been posted as Early Access content for my Patrons last week.
Hello, dear friends!
Last week we were browsing our extensive library of streaming services wanting to watch something special, something meaningful. Thus we stumbled upon CODA, a hauntingly beautiful, dramatic, poignant, and at the same time uplifting story about a teenager who needs to find her own way in life.
Do you see? This girl is a CODA, a child of deaf parents and she is the only one in her family that can hear.
What follows is a wonderful adventure filled with challenges that our young hero needs to surpass in order to fulfill her destiny. Although at times the movie is very painful to watch because of the struggles real-life forces this family to live through, the brilliant writing, the fantastic actors and the sublime soundtrack are making it worthwhile.
We watched CODA with audio descriptions because I’m blind and because Alina loves the extra insights AD adds to the story, but you can choose to do the same or use the regular audio track, so you can experience the movie exactly the way it was intended by its creators.
CODA is an unforgettable film that we will always treasure and hold dear to our hearts. The way the family is portrayed feels real and very authentic, the love for music shown by our young protagonist and the level of respect and love poured by the creative team and the actors in this production is phenomenal! We cried with smiles upon our faces because this is a bitter-sweet narrative that tugs at everyone’s heartstrings.
If you have Apple TV+, go watch CODA, if you don’t, find a way to watch it, the subscription is very affordable and if you purchased an Apple product in the last year you are probably eligible for a free trial.
I know that this service is not available in all countries at this time, but there are ways around that. The movie is a masterpiece and it has been nominated for a lot of awards. Oh yeah, and one of the deaf actors could win an Oscar for his role in CODA. Wishing you all a fantastic week ahead and hope you’ll enjoy CODA as much as we did.
LEARN MORE ABOUT CODA:
Gifted with a voice that her parents can’t hear, seventeen-year-old Ruby (Emilia Jones), is the sole hearing member of a deaf family—a CODA, Child of Deaf Adults. Her life revolves around acting as interpreter for her parents (Marlee Matlin, Troy Kotsur) and working on the family’s struggling fishing boat every day before school with her father and older brother (Daniel Durant).
But when Ruby joins her high school’s choir club, she discovers a gift for singing and finds herself drawn to her duet partner Miles (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo). Encouraged by her enthusiastic, tough-love choirmaster (Eugenio Derbez) to apply to a prestigious music school, Ruby finds herself torn between the obligations she feels to her family and the pursuit of her own dreams
