Entertainment Review: Tetris – Apple TV+

This article has originally been featured on my Patreon page.
Hello everyone. It is late but I wanted to write this as soon as possible. Alina and I just finished watching Tetris, the recently released Apple TV+ production retelling the origins story of the titular video game which ended up selling more than half a billion units since 1988.
The movie is fantastic! We loved it. Although we planned to just check it out for a few minutes because it was already late in the afternoon, we ended up watching it in its entirety and we were left with huge smiles on our faces.
Taron Egerton stars in this new and fabulous Apple Original Film inspired by the true story of how one man risked his life to outsmart the KGB and turn Tetris into a worldwide sensation.
From the movie synopsis, we learn that Tetris tells the unbelievable story of how one of the world’s most popular video games found its way to avid players around the globe. Henk Rogers (Taron Egerton) discovers TETRIS in 1988, and then risks everything by traveling to the Soviet Union, where he joins forces with inventor Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to bring the game to the masses.
Based on a true story, “Tetris” is a Cold War–era thriller on steroids, with double-crossing villains, unlikely heroes, and a nail-biting race to the finish.
All else that you will find out from me is that the production is extremely immersive and atmospheric, the soundtrack is perfect and the acting itself deserves an award or 10. I can’t believe what we just watched. I don’t think that many people know this story and it definitely deserves to be known.
Highly recommending Tetris to all gamers out there and to everyone else who just wants to enjoy a feel-good piece of entertainment.
Although I am blind, I was able to enjoy this production as much as anyone else thanks to absolutely superb audio descriptions. Everything was described in detail and made me feel that I could actually see what’s happening on the screen. Even the transitions from one country to another which in the movie are Presented as pixelated scenes from video games were vividly explained. Many congrats to the audio description professionals who worked on this project.
I don’t know how, but Apple continues to delight and entertain its subscribers with uniquely original stories and for that I will always gladly pay the monthly fee for this streaming service filled with awesome productions.
For me, Tetris is the game that defined my childhood. I grew up with a knockoff Nintendo game boy in my jeans pocket or jacket pockets wherever I went. Whenever I have a few free minutes I would just grab it, play a few games and put it back in. I would really love if we could find a way to make Tetris accessible to Blind players as a video game today, I am convinced it can be done, and I’d love to play it once again.
After watching Tetris, I am left with a feeling of nostalgia that I haven’t experienced for a long time. Well done, everyone!
Have a wonderful weekend dear friends!
