Discover and play accessible creations in the Games for Blind Gamers Jam
Hello, dear readers. As most of you who follow me already know, I love games and although I’m totally blind, I have never stopped playing them.
Accessibility and universal design need to be at the core of all games in order to ensure that these are accessible for us blind players, and that’s why I’m delighted to shine a bright spotlight on the fantastic Games for Blind Gamers Jam initiative on itch.io.
2026 marks the 5th anniversary of the Games for Blind Gamers Jam, and although I have played some of the games myself and am good friends with some of the people involved with this project, I don’t want to influence you.
So, I encourage you to visit the Games for Blind Gamers Jam page, read more about the jam, the people, and the games. After that, please download and try out what peaks your interest, and last, but hopefully not least, vote for your favorite as the voting ends on March 15.
You can play some of the games in a browser, but it is best to have them locally on your machine, just to be sure everything works as intended.
Below you can watch the official YouTube trailer for the jam, and remember to subscribe to the channel.
Such initiatives are extremely rare and that much important because they raise awareness about the Blind Community and show how every game can be made accessible if accessibility is an integral part of the development process.
In the end, I want to congratulate everyone involved with the Games for Blind Gamers Jam and at the same time send a big Thank You their way.
Remember, there are three mantras that our community lives by: “Disability happens when accessibility doesn’t,” “When everybody plays, we all win,“ and “Nothing about us, without us.”
All this means that we can make our own games, but we would love for everyone to include us in what they do. If you are a developer and have a game in mind, please reach out to me or to any other accessibility consultant, and let’s make sure your idea will be in the hands and minds of the almost 500 million impaired and disabled players in the world.
I hope that you will consider sharing this article and the amazing jam with family and friends, because only like that we can show everyone that yes, blind gamers love to play games!
It is great that a handful of big studios have created accessible games for us, but where we have Naughty Dog, Insomniac Games, Santa Monica Studios, WB Netherrealm, Turn10 or Interior / Night, there are tens of thousands of developers that don’t even know they can make their games accessible.
To all the devs and artists involved in the jam, keep up the amazing work and thank you once again for caring forward the accessibility torch so that the entire world can see it!
