Review: LEGO Speed Champions Mercedes‑AMG G 63 & Mercedes‑AMG SL 63 (76924)
Two very different Mercedes, one very enjoyable build.
Hello dear LEGO lovers. Most of you already know that over the past few years Alina and I have discovered just how much fun building LEGO together can be. Before starting to put together this Mercedes dual pack, we had already assembled a few other cars from the series, including the Red Bull F1 car, the 007 James Bond Aston Martin, and the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. All three were fantastic builds, so we were curious to see how these would compare.
This set contains 808 pieces and two cars, each about 18 cm long, roughly 8 cm wide, and around 7 cm tall, plus two driver minifigures.
Mercedes-AMG G 63
The first model is the black Mercedes-AMG G 63, the famous G-Class SUV. Even at this smaller scale, the car is instantly recognizable thanks to its tall, boxy shape. The front of the vehicle feels upright and square, with a narrow grille and round headlights that capture the classic G-Wagon look. The body sits high above the wheels, giving the car that rugged off-road stance the real vehicle is known for.
From the sides, the design feels very solid. The panels are straight and vertical, the wheel arches are wide, and the roofline runs flat from front to back. Altogether, it gives the model a strong, chunky presence. A nice detail is that the hood can be opened, revealing a small brick-built engine underneath. It’s a simple feature, but it adds even more personality to the car.
Mercedes-AMG SL 63
Next to the SUV sits the bright yellow Mercedes-AMG SL 63, a sleek convertible roadster that feels like the complete opposite of the G-Class.
This car sits much lower to the ground and immediately feels faster and more aerodynamic. The long hood slopes smoothly toward the front grille, while the windshield leans back sharply into a compact open cabin. The rear of the car narrows slightly and flows into slim tail lights, giving the whole model a sporty and elegant look. The bright yellow color also makes the details stand out very nicely. Just like the SUV, the hood on this car also opens, revealing another small engine build inside. It’s a fun detail that adds a little extra character once the model is finished.
Although I am totally blind, I managed to build both cars myself simply by following instructions from Alina while working through the steps together. With a bit of patience and teamwork, the process went very smoothly.
The Speed Champions series is always both challenging and rewarding. Even though the cars are relatively small, the building techniques used to create the shapes are surprisingly clever. Some sections are quite intricate, especially on the G-Class where the designers had to recreate that iconic squared silhouette.
We spent a little over 4 hours putting together this set and in the end we had a great time building these two cars. The contrast between the rugged black G-Class and the sleek yellow SL roadster makes the set feel special, and both models look great displayed next to each other.
For fans of Mercedes and for anyone who enjoys building LEGO cars, this Speed Champions dual pack is an easy recommendation. It’s a fun build, full of clever techniques, and another excellent addition to the series!
