Entertainment Review: Stranger Things, Season 4, Volume 1
This article has been posted as early access content for my friends on Patreon and has been made available to the public at a later date.
Hello dear friends! Late last night we finished watching Stranger Things, season 4, volume 1, and as I promised previously, I return now with a short, spoiler-free review.
Stranger Things fans have been eagerly waiting for this new season for more than three years, but I am really glad to see that the long development period paid out and we are treated to the best season yet and one of the most intriguing story arcs in recent memory.
What started in season 1 with a group of young friends in 1980s Indiana, investigating supernatural forces and secret government exploits, has quickly transformed into a gripping story featuring alternative dimensions, nightmarish monsters, and some of the most unforgettable characters in the entertainment history.
With this fourth season of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers deliver the goods on a scale never seen before. There are four different story arcs that, with time, will collide and combine.
With a series of gruesome murders befalling the youngest amongst the inhabitants of Hawkins, Indiana, the gang must unite once again in order to solve the mystery. But things are much more complicated than they could have imagined and with each of them having to navigate their complicated teenager years, complete with teen romance and other relationships, this time the adventure is more personal and the steaks are higher than ever before.
This is all that I’m willing to tell you because I really don’t want to spoil anything. Just trust me that the writing is excellent, the cinematography is beautiful, the visual effects are stunning, the actors are absolutely amazing, the music perfectly captures the vibe of mid-1980s USA and the story is brilliant.
The Duffer brothers said from the beginning that they were inspired to write Stranger Things by their experience reading books written by Stephen King and the influence of that is palpable throughout the series so far.
Great character development, dramatic events, an evil that everyone must unite against and iconic settings are just a few of the staples that exist both in Stephen King’s books and Stranger Things.
Combining brilliant writing that manages to be amusing and terrifying at the same time, volume 1 is comprised of seven episodes, some of them quite long, but there’s nothing wrong with that. It was a great pleasure to spend so many hours with these beloved characters and we can’t wait to watch the last two episodes of season 4, which will arrive with volume 2 on July 1st. Episode 8 is rumored to have 85 minutes and episode 9 more than two hours and a half, so yes, more Stranger Things awesomeness for us!
If you love books by Stephen King and science fiction movies, please don’t miss out on Stranger Things! It’s a phenomenon that convinced me to stay subscribed to Netflix for at least a few more months. This one and The Umbrella Academy are two of the shows that I love on the streaming service.
The audio descriptions for Stranger Things are excellent, provided by Deluxe, both the writing and the narration are top notch and spot on. This is the gold standard that everyone should follow. Succinct, vividly described scenes with subtle narration that never intrudes but always enriches the experience.
One of the few series where Alina didn’t feel the need to explain anything to me because everything happening on screen was included seamlessly with the audio descriptions track.
When AD is done well, Low vision and Blind viewers can feel like they see everything in their mind’s eye and the credit for that should definitely go to the person who wrote the script and of course, to the narrator.
Stranger Things is dark, atmospheric, visceral, gripping, thrilling, perfect for binging, and truly entertaining! This show will end with season 5, hopefully in one year or two and that’s not bad at all. I think that all good things must come to an end and it’s better to do it before they go bad.
As a sidenote, as I am writing this review, I am listening to the soundtrack for season 4 on Apple Music and that always helps me to better remember the feelings that I had when experiencing the content, which, in turn, allows me to form more comprehensive thoughts on a specific material.
I hope you found this review interesting!
