I love the new Xbox Home UI experience

A Screenshot of the new Xbox home user interface featuring a horizontal menu on the top with Home, game pass, search, settings and other buttons. Below you can see the dynamic theme for Starfield and a large number of tiles placed horizontally,, rows up on rows, looking very similar to other modern user interfaces from streaming services such as Netflix and Apple TV+.

Hello, dear readers! My name is Victor, and I am a blind gaming, technology, and entertainment journalist. I am also an ambassador for universal design and an accessibility consultant. Last week, the nice folks at Xbox made available the long-awaited new Xbox home user interface for Xbox series X/S and even for Xbox One and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to write a short article about it.

We were lucky enough to have our Xbox series X migrate to the new UI from the first day and since then both Alina and I have played around with the new home experience and we are quite pleasantly impressed.

With this update we finally have a modern, fast and intuitive way of browsing content, menus and of personalizing our Xbox.

By introducing a quick access menu on the very top of the Home screen, it is now really easy to go to the Library, the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass, Search, and Settings. This cleaner and simplified home puts the games we recently played and other apps towards the bottom of the screen and makes finding them a breeze.

Now we have more room to show off custom backgrounds or game art, we get easy access to quicker navigation options, and have more freedom to personalize our Xbox like never before.

The new Xbox Home feels fresh and fast, focuses on the games and apps that we love, while at the same time creates space for gorgeous backgrounds and themes.

Faster UI also means that navigation on the Xbox home became much more responsive even when using narrator. I am a screen reader user and I am super happy with how quick and responsive the new interface is, although I would love to receive the natural voices Aria and Jenny on Xbox series X. These are available on windows 11 and I think that Xbox players who use narrator can benefit from them and have a better experience with everything read to them by voices sounding as natural as possible.

Last, but not least, I’d love to get a later update with haptic feedback on the Xbox controller when using the User interface as I believe this could create an even more immersive experience.

Currently, the new Home experience is rolling out to all Xbox consoles, so over the next few weeks everyone connected to the Internet will have it. There is even a helpful guide to make it easy for you to get the best out of the new Xbox home.

I’m glad to see that Xbox continues to make the current generation, and even the last one, more approachable and accessible to us as gamers.

I can’t help but feel hopeful for the future and lucky enough to be part of the Xbox family.

Happy gaming everyone!
