Review: LEGO Harry Potter Shrieking Shack & Whomping Willow (76407)

Feel the Magic

Hey there, fellow LEGO lovers! I’m Victor, a blind gaming, tech, and entertainment journalist. I’m also an advocate for universal design, an accessibility consultant, and AFoL. For those not in the know, that’s an Adult Fan of LEGO. Alina and I recently got into LEGO, and we’ve been collecting sets to feed our newfound passion. We’ve been eyeing the Harry Potter collection, LEGO City, a few LEGO Modulars, and even LEGO Space. With Halloween coming up, we decided to put together a cool LEGO display. After looking through our boxes of all sorts of sizes, we finally picked the LEGO Harry Potter Shrieking Shack & Whomping Willow (76407) as the centerpiece. So, I thought it would be fun to share my thoughts on this set with you.

The LEGO Harry Potter Shrieking Shack & Whomping Willow (76407) is an amazing set that brings to life one of the most iconic scenes from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. With 777 pieces, it’s a great way to recreate key moments featuring the creepy Shrieking Shack and the mighty Whomping Willow. Whether you’re a LEGO fan or just a Harry Potter enthusiast, this set is definitely worth checking out.

Alina and I, die-hard Harry Potter fans, absolutely love recreating iconic moments from the series within the LEGO universe. And guess what? This set didn’t disappoint us at all! You see, I became a Harry Potter fan after I lost my sight, and for me, it’s truly magical to feel these sets with my hands and imagine them vividly in my mind. Alina’s descriptions and the help of some cool artificial intelligence apps made this experience even more incredible.

The building process was a blast, but it did come with a few challenges for me as a blind LEGO builder. I couldn’t assemble the entire set on my own, but I sorted the pieces, built a few structural elements, and kept Alina company throughout the fun. Together, we made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

One of the coolest features of this set is its interactive play functions. The Whomping Willow, with its spinning base and movable branches, adds a whole new level of excitement and fun to the set. You can even grab minifigures with the tree’s branches, just like in the movies! It’s an engaging feature that, paired with the spooky atmosphere of the Shrieking Shack, makes for some seriously creative play.

We absolutely love this set not only for building it, but also for displaying it. Especially during Halloween season its spooky aesthetic really sets the mood.

The image shows a detailed LEGO scene inspired by “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” On the left side, there is a large, dark, and twisted tree, representing the Whomping Willow, a magical tree from the series that aggressively protects itself. Hermione Granger, with brown hair and a pink outfit, is entangled in the branches, showcasing the tree’s dangerous nature. Next to the tree, Sirius Black stands on the green LEGO base, with a small black dog by his side, symbolizing his Animagus form. This scene is filled with elements from the climactic moments of the story. In the center of the image is a tall, dark brown building—the Shrieking Shack, a haunted building from the Harry Potter universe. The house looks old, with boarded-up windows and a door, creating a spooky, abandoned atmosphere. Snow decorates the roof and ledges, adding a wintery touch. In front of the Shrieking Shack are three characters: Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, and Peter Pettigrew in his Animagus rat form (represented by a small LEGO rat piece). The scene captures a tense moment from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” full of action and mystery.

Visually, this set is simply stunning. The Shrieking Shack stands tall with a dark brown, weathered look. Boarded-up windows and doors give it an abandoned, haunted feel, while snow-dusted patches on the roof and around the building add a wintry touch. The intricate detailing, like the crooked, jagged roofline, sharp angles, and uneven planks, makes the building look like it’s straight out of the Wizarding World. The icy details around the roof and windows further enhance the colder and ominous atmosphere, making it perfect for a Halloween or even winter display.

Next to the Shack is the famous Whomping Willow, a giant tree with twisted, dark brown branches that look like they’re alive. The tree’s scary, gnarled branches, with a few green leaves, can be used to grab at the minifigures, making it feel like something alive is trying to catch them. The base of the tree has a spinning mechanism, so it moves around and adds to the excitement of the scene.

The set also includes six detailed minifigures: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. Each character has their own unique outfit from the movies, like Ron’s red sweater and Hermione’s pink jacket. Harry is wearing his Gryffindor uniform, while Sirius Black and Lupin are ready for their big fight. Lupin even has his werewolf transformation figure, which looks more like a wolf with claws and a long face, bringing that exciting scene to life.

To make the scene even more realistic, there’s even a full moon on a stand next to the Whomping Willow, which reminds us of Lupin’s transformation. Peter Pettigrew is shown in both his human form and as a small rat figure, while Sirius is also shown in his Animagus form as a black dog. These little details make the set more than just a building project – it’s like a whole story that you can play out.

In short, The LEGO Harry Potter Shrieking Shack & Whomping Willow (76407) is not just a set – it’s an experience! Whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or just a LEGO lover, this set is sure to impress. It’s perfect for displaying on your shelf or for imaginative play. We highly recommend it to anyone who wants to create their own magical moment!

You can get your set directly from LEGO by clicking the following link, but be fast because this one is retiring soon and after that you will pay much more for it if you want it.

I truly believe that LEGO is one of the best inventions mankind could come up with and I am super happy to have discovered it. The name LEGO is an abbreviation of the two Danish words leg godt, meaning play well, and that’s exactly what we definitely do every time we pick up a piece. With LEGO, only our imagination is the limit, so let us all build together for a better, brighter and limitless future!
